KeyChain© Font First
published by Scroll Saw Workshop Magazine in the Fall of 2005, this idea of a
special font to help layout personalized scroll sawn key chains has been
wildly and enthusiastically received ever since. Originally sold as a stand alone font, it
never worked well and was eventually offered for free. Due to
constant demand via blogs and woodworking forums, the author recently revised
and corrected the previous deficiencies.
“I still get requests
every week for the KeyChain© Font.” The new
KeyChain© font is easily visible in any program using True Type Fonts©. The
earlier version was impossible to see at smaller point sizes which made its
use very difficult. This is a scalable font so it
can be sized from 8 points to as large as your program will allow. I have seen
it used as large as 1,000 points with the average being 48 to 250 points. The user
simply selects the KeyChain© font along with the point size needed and types
the name or message. The resulting pattern is printed, cut out and applied to
the piece to be cut as a pattern or template. The item is then cut and
drilled as any other scroll saw pattern would be. |
New Scroll Saw Names© Font
Included Also published
in Scroll Saw Workshop Magazine and again in the “Big Book Of Scroll Saw
Woodworking” Book by Fox Chapel Publishing under the heading of Personalize
It!, was an article explaining how to make
desktop name puzzles. Each letter was cut individually with an intricate
overlap involving many tedious steps to achieve the proper look and spacing. The author
has developed a completely new font called Scroll Saw Names© which
does all of that automatically. It has been included as a bonus in the KeyChain©
font package. The user selects
the Scroll Saw
Names© font along with the point size needed and
types the name or message. The “Outline” attribute must be selected to make
the characters hollow. The message
is printed, cut out and applied to the piece to be cut as a pattern or
template. It is very simple to use without the hassle of figuring out
variable spacing and +/- kerning. The user doesn’t have to be a computer
genius to utilize this method. |
